art for living spaces
Heather Sorelli : Creation Mode
As a mixed media artist, I create abstract and non-representational works inspired by geography, cultures, emotional states, and above all, color.
Colors are ubiquitous; they have a profound role in day-to-day emotions and direction in life, and I believe emotion-color association impacts how our memories form. This fascination with color drives my practice.
Each piece begins with color to establish atmosphere and depth, where I use paint to sculpt with different tones. I lean heavily into its expressive power to create compositions that hint at wide-open landscapes and emotional states.
As I’m building up color and texture in the pieces gradually and intuitively, layers subtly surface in the final work and others may remain invisible. I believe this long process and hidden history add curiosity to a work’s final visual identity.
